Join Ellen Rook for a special workshop on creating your own Personal Universal Deck, a powerful tool for divination, literary and artistic creation, and just plain fun.

Following the instructions of poet Michael McClure, you will choose 100 words that represent your past, present, and future. You will then create a 50-card word sculpture that you can use to:

• Ask questions about your future

• Inspire your writing or art

• Play games with friends

The workshop will be led by an experienced facilitator who will guide you through the process of creating your deck. You will also have the opportunity to share your decks with the group and learn from each other.

Bring a deck of playing cards like these ones or blank 3x5 index cards to write on.

Meet Your Teacher:

Ellen Rook is a poet and contemplative arts teacher who divides her time between upstate New York and South Portland, Maine. She teaches writing workshops and leads retreats that combine meditation, movement, and writing. She has been teaching meditation for over 30 years and has led programs for schools and universities, meditation centers, employee assistance programs, libraries and more.  Ellen has a Master of Fine Arts degree from Lindenwood University. Her poetry has been published in New Verse News, Black Fork Review, New Note Poetry, The Banyan Review, Quibble, The Dewdrop, and Trolley.
