Tarot 101

Tarot 101 or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Cards

Tarot has a long and prolific history since its first imagining as a game in the 15th century. With ties to astrology, kabbalah, occult traditions of the 20th century, and more, folks have been inspired to return to their tarot decks over and over for guidance. There is a wealth of information, study, analysis, meanings, and correspondences associated with every single card in this 78-card deck affording untold reflection and relevance in our lives.

Wow, that’s actually pretty intense. How do you even get started?

In this session with Halcyone Wise, we will break down the cards into much more manageable parts. We’ll cover the history and uses of tarot, how to shuffle, what the most successful sort of questions are to ask your deck, and how to use and develop tarot spreads. We’ll talk about the major themes of the major arcana, the suits of the minor arcana, and start picking apart the court cards. We’ll talk about the little white book that comes with your tarot deck, how to work with it, and how we can start moving away from using it and reading the cards more intuitively, even on your first day.

We’ll wrap up by breaking off into groups to read the cards together, taking our first step on the Fool’s Journey (and if you don’t get that reference, you will by the end of the class!)

Bring a tarot deck and a notebook, and we’ll get started on demystifying a tradition that at is core, is rooted in personal exploration and play.

Sliding Scale $30-50 via cash, Venmo @maya-rook, or card when you pay online in advance.
